Autumn and Ayurveda

Autumn and Ayurveda

In autumn, the days get cooler and shorter and we're invited to slow down an focus our attention inward. After a very outdoorsy summer, I find Autumn a good time to start to slow down a bit and focus on my diet and spiritual life and meditation.
For a predominantly Vata person such as myself, Autumn is a time when my Vata Dosha can often go out of balance, since Autumn is ruled by Vata dosha. In my case, I find my skin drying out and I need to apply a lot more oil or moisturizer to it. My joints are much stiffer in the mornings and I need to do a lot slower forms of Yoga so that I do not injure myself.
You may experience dryness, anxiety and irregular sleep, digestion, or menstruation at this time. Whether you love autumn or dread the oncoming winter, you'll feel more balanced with a few simple diet and lifestyle adjustments.

To balance Vata, it is wise to create the opposite qualities in your life—wet, warm, sheltered, grounded, heavy, slow and regular.
Some of our tips...
  1. Focus on a warming, nourishing diet
  2. Take extra care of your skin due to Vata's dryness quality
  3. Keep to regular meal times
  4. Increase stillness in your day by including some quiet meditation time
  5. practice a warm, slow, gentle paced yoga
